Comet Academy compared with Replit
Replit is a place to build. This is a reason to finish.
Replit is an excellent piece of software. You open a browser tab and you have a working development environment, with an AI that can build a great deal of an application for you from a description.
There is no setup, nothing to install, and it runs on a school laptop. For getting from nothing to a running app in an afternoon, it is genuinely hard to beat.
Pick Replit if…
- You already know what you want to build and you just need somewhere to build it.
- You want to try something this weekend without committing three weeks or several hundred dollars.
- You are comfortable working alone and you finish things you start without anyone checking.
- You want to spend as little money as possible. A tool subscription costs a fraction of a course.
Pick us if…
- You have started things before and not finished them. That is the actual problem, and a better editor does not solve it.
- You do not yet know what is worth building, which is the hardest question and the one week one is spent on.
- You want to build something physical. A browser tab cannot read a sensor.
- You want someone experienced looking at your work each week and telling you the truth about it.
Side by side.
| Replit | Comet Academy | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A tool you use | A course with a deadline |
| Who checks your work | Nobody, unless you ask | The instructor, at three checkpoints |
| Deadline | None. It is there whenever you return | Three weeks, then it is over |
| Hardware | Not applicable — it runs in a browser | An electronics kit and a physical build track |
| Other people | You, alone, at your own pace | A fixed cohort building at the same time |
| Cost | A monthly subscription | One payment, once |
The short answer
These are not the same kind of thing, and you can use both. Replit is somewhere to build; this is a reason to finish, a decision about what to build, and somebody checking. If you have already finished things on your own, save your money and use the tool.
